When I think about a rainy day, my first thought is the sense of renewal when I view a rainbow. It brings a shiny new coat on almost anything it touches. The mud forming a brown crust on my boots as I walk along the path of my life. The hidden raindrops falling from the trees onto my head.

John Updike views rain as, "Rain is grace; rain is the sky condescending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life". Rain both has a poetic yet practical meaning to it in our lives. Sometimes, it takes on simple human qualities without us realizing it when we think about it.

American novelist Donna Tartt sees rain as, "When I'm writing, I am concentrating almost wholly on concrete detail: the color a room is painted, the way a drop of water rolls off a wet leaf after a rain". In a novel, book, movie, or play, it can take the form of a prop or a method to set the mood. It has an inner quality or characteristic that each of us can enjoy when reflected upon by another's point of view.

American musician Michael W. Smith thinks of rain as, "Healing rain is a real touch from God. It could be physical healing or emotional or whatever". It has a healing quality to ourselves and the planet. It brings water at an interesting moment in time. The timing might seem pretty bad at times, but in reality, it came at the perfect time for it to enter into our lives.

A rainy day means many things to many different people. The meaning could be simple or complex. Sometimes it can bring a poetic or human characteristic thought when we are inspired.
